International Sales Manager – Distributor Markets, Asia & Americas: Become the Newest Member of the Altra Family

This position has responsibility for managing and growing Altra’s business in Asia and the Americas through a network of local distributors.

As a key member of Altra’s leadership team, this position is responsible for identifying, assessing, appointing, managing and partnering with outstanding distributors in the Asia and Americas Regions to represent the Altra brand in their local markets – driving sales to agreed targets, communicating and supporting the brand’s global strategies, facilitating local execution of same through an agreed Business Plan, ensuring that Altra’s legal requirements and operational policies are adhered to, acting as the bridge between the Altra Corporate office and it’s International Distributors in Asia and the Americas.

This individual will provide insight, guidance, organization and leadership to Altra’s Asia and Americas Distributors – communicating Altra’s differentiated and unique brand positioning, holistic brand strategies, core values, key product stories, seasonal marketing programs, sales initiatives, forecasting and buy schedules, shipment calendars, pricing, operational requirements, calendars, timelines and methodologies, financial and payment requirements.

They will also be responsible for representing the Asia and Americas Distributor markets to the Corporate office in order to maximize all commercial opportunities – understanding and communicating local product needs, distribution channels, consumer preferences, competitive landscape, industry norms, operational capabilities – and ensuring that each Distributor upholds and performs against the terms and conditions contained in their Distributor Agreement.

Key Responsibilities:

Serve as Altra’s focal point for all distributor markets in the Asia and Americas Regions. Identify, assess and appoint local Distributors for Altra based on set criteria around organizational culture, sector knowledge, sector relationships, financial resources, operational capabilities, strategic alignment, growth ambitions, willingness to invest, partnership mentality. Manage all Distributors, ensuring that terms and conditions agreed in each Distributor Agreement are met, including the achievement of sales targets. Renew, amend, allow to expire or terminate Distributor Agreements as appropriate and in accordance with Altra’s strategic and financial objectives. Communicate Altra’s brand positioning, product hierarchy, core strategies, seasonal objectives and commercial priorities to each Distributor to ensure that their resource allocation, funding, operations and activities are in line with the company’s. Set, analyze and drive achievement of strategic product, sales, marketing and financial objectives, including category goals and distribution targets. Develop, approve and uphold an agreed 3 Year Business Plan with each Distributor, updated annually. Establish standard sales reports to regularly update Altra’s senior management of progress against targets – ensure these targets are met or exceeded. Work with Product, Finance and Operations teams to create and communicate seasonal Distributor Price Lists, ensuring that company’s margin criteria is met. Review how Distributor prices are converted into Retail pricing at local market level, assess impact and price parity versus competitors product. Work with Customer Service and Operations teams to communicate company’s requirements re forecasts, order & buy schedules, minimum order quantities, order placement, order tracking, order dispatch. Work with Marketing department to facilitate and communicate seasonal Marketing programs and initiatives. Work with Finance team to ensure Distributors adherence to company’s trading terms Work with Digital team to ensure Distributors adherence to company policy with regard ecommerce and social media. Work with Legal Department to ensure Distributors adherence to all terms and conditions contained in the Distributors Agreement, taking and supporting any corrective action if necessary.

Skills for Success:

Educational/ Position Requirements:

  • BA or BS degree in Business, Product, Marketing or related field plus 5+ years of relevant and progressive experience in a sales or management role, preferably in the branded consumer sector

Ideal Skills:

  • Strong record of meeting or exceeding sales targets

  • Experience running a business of similar size and scope, with proven results

  • Strong track record of effectively managing budget and financial disciplines

  • Strong communicator, both verbal and written, superior inter personal skills

  • Strong Business Planning skills, ability to both formulate and manage business plans

  • Strong Athletic, Outdoor or Action Sports industry experience

  • Ability to be an ambassador for the brands core philosophies - running techniques, biomechanics, anatomical design, brands Unique Selling Proposition

  • Strong understanding of sales, product, marketing and merchandising

  • Superior product eye, ability to communicate product attributes

  • Understanding of market and consumer

  • Intellectual curiosity, ability to work seamlessly across geographies and cultures
